A handful of congregations scattered across a 1,500-kilometre archipelago

An Ahmadiyya missionary from Ghana first visited the Solomon Islands in 1987, returning again in 1990, but it took another decade — and a missionary sent from West Africa in 2001 — before the community was formally registered in 2003 around a mission centre at Kolale, above Honiara. From that small beginning, converts have since been recorded scattered across South Malaita, Savo, the Russell Islands, Western Province and even remote Temotu and East Renell, generally reaching double figures or low hundreds of families in any one place rather than forming large congregations.

That scattering matters for prayer timing more than the community's size might suggest: the Solomon Islands' main islands stretch across roughly 1,500 kilometres of ocean, all sharing a single time zone despite the real difference in longitude, so a village in the far eastern Temotu Province sees the sun rise well before Honiara does on the same clock time. This page's location-specific calculation is built for exactly that kind of spread-out geography.

Why the Muslim World League method

With no local fatwa council of its own, the Solomon Islands' small Muslim community follows the Muslim World League's standard angles by default — a method that works cleanly at its roughly 9° south latitude, where day length stays fairly constant across the year.

Frequently asked

Why might Honiara's calculated sunrise not match what someone sees in Temotu Province?

Temotu lies several hundred kilometres east of Honiara but keeps the same official time zone, so the sun there rises and sets earlier by local clock time than the times calculated for the capital — a good reason to select the specific location closest to you rather than defaulting to Honiara.

Which denomination do most Solomon Islands Muslims belong to?

The community that grew out of the 2003 registration is Ahmadiyya, reflecting the missionary work that established it, making the Solomon Islands' Muslim population distinct in composition from larger Sunni-majority communities elsewhere in the region.

Is the Muslim community concentrated in one town?

No — while the main mission centre sits in Honiara, converts have historically been recorded across scattered islands including Malaita, Savo, the Russells and Guadalcanal, reflecting how the faith spread through individual missionary contact rather than settled migration.

Does Ramadan fasting vary much across the year here?

Very little — at around 9° south of the equator, the Solomon Islands sees only a small seasonal swing in daylight hours, so Ramadan's daily fasting length stays fairly consistent whichever month it falls in.
